UPDATE - 16 April 2005

Added a write up on the wheel saga with pics available from the mods page. I think I better give Opposite Lock their 4x4 suspension back.

UPDATE - 12 April 2005

Woohoo my wheels are all on finally!! I had to go for 215/45s for the front because the 225s weren't available. The 215s are okay, not as stretched as I had expected, but more than I would like. I'll get pics soon...

UPDATE - 8 April 2005

The Sil went in for a service yesterday at Kalgoorlie Ultra Rice... A compression test was performed and came back with 150psi in all four cylinders. From what I've read this is an excellent result. The left rear brake had been dragging and worn the pad to almost nothing, so they were replaced. Changed the belts, and my bloody washer bottle has a hole in it. No wonder I had to fill it more often... Finally, a dyno power run was performed...

The first run was done with the boost control turned off (12psi on the dyno gauge) and ended up with 172hp. To me this looked promising as previously we had got 167hp from it on low boost. Okay, flick it onto high boost (14psi) and what happens?? A lowly 186hp... The AFR showed as being very rich at the top end, so with tuning it should put out more hp.
After thinking about it, I realised the previous run was done at nearly 16psi, so I guess the figure is about right. I'm also wondering whether a higher tyre would effect the dyno figure much, because my rear tyres are 1cm taller than my old ones. The real test would be to take the GTech and see what numbers I can get now.

UPDATE - 5 April 2005

It just seems like my wheels were never meant to be... I'm half way there now, at least the rear wheels are on and they look awesome!! The front is another story... The tyres being 235/45 are 1cm wider and taller than the 225/50/16s I had on the front. The right strut clears the tyre by the tiniest of margins, but the left strut sits 0.5cm lower and is just enough to touch on the tyre.

My options would be to use an 'illegal' wheel spacer to move the tyre away from the strut (although that doesn't help with the top of the strut being too low), change from conventional spring/dampers to coilovers, or change the tyres for something smaller. I've chosen the latter, and gone for a pair of 225/45/17s. This should move the tyre edge away and down from the bottom of the strut. If it doesn't I'll sell the bloody car...

UPDATE - 16 March 2005

After a very long wait my wheels have arrived!! I changed my mind again and ended up getting 17"x8" (+32) all round, with 235/45 tyres. They aren't fitted yet, but here's what they looked like when i stood them next to the car. Am I happy? You better believe it!!

UPDATE - 11 March 2005

I'm bored with the site styling, again. This time I've gone for a different colour scheme and tried to make the site as readable as possible by stretching it to fit the window, instead of bunching it up in the middle of bigger screens.
Let me know if you like it or hate it. Either way, I'm sure it won't be around for long, as I change my mind weekly.

UPDATE - 10 March 2005

Added a link to James' site, Drift180.com, about his 180sx and various motorsport happenings around Perth. Its been around since December last year, but James has finally got his act together and updated the site. Of course it won't be better than my site , but he plans to have info about the local Perth car shows, as well as tech info. There is also a forum to have your say in.
